Community Engagement Officer – Wagga Wagga NSW (12-month Contract)

About the role:

The Community Engagement Officer is a full time, 12 month role, based in Wagga and working with our teams in Wagga, Griffith and Queanbeyan to promote Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) services for young people (Wagga and Griffith) and adults with dependants (Queanbeyan) provided by Karralika Programs. You will plan and deliver community engagement activities, connect with local services and raise awareness through communication and marketing approaches that understand and reach young people and are inclusive of young people .

What you’ll be working on:

  • Developing a communications/marketing and engagement strategy that is effective in reaching and engaging young people from a wide range of backgrounds, as well as other government and community services, schools and centres.
  • Creatively promoting the service through community events, forums, through social media and other platforms, and other health promotion events and initiatives.
  • Team up with other regional community engagement officers to coordinate local service responses and pathways for people to easily access and navigate their local AOD services.
  • Raise awareness and engagement that promotes access to AOD programs, and reduces stigma and discrimination

What you’ll bring:

The successful candidate will have strong networks in the local communities and excellent communication skills, particularly an ability to engage and hear the voice of vulnerable young people. You will have a solid understanding of community engagement, barriers for people to access AOD services and in particular Karralika’s services, work within AOD harm reduction principles and strategies, and a creative flair to reach and engage with young people. Most of all, you will have a great attitude, values alignment and aptitude for working with others in creative ways that can really make a difference.

You will have:

  • Diploma or higher qualification in a relevant field (e.g. AOD, Community Services, Community Development, Health Promotion)
  • Experience developing and implementing community based activities, communications and marketing, and networking
  • Experience working with young people and AOD or other relevant sector
  • Current Working With Children’s Check and Drivers License
