Sober Driver Program

Karralika Programs Inc. has been the lead agency in drink-driver education in the ACT for many years, offering programs to men and women who are 18 years of age and over. The Sober Driver Program provides a 9 week education program for people who have been convicted of, or facing charges for, drink-driving offences.

About the Program

Over 9 weeks, participants will meet weekly for 2 hours to examine the legal, health and social impacts of drink-driving. The Program assists participants to develop positive personal skills and attitudes in relation to alcohol and drink driving issues.

The Program is provided to men and women who are 18 years of age and over who are:

  • Charged with or facing charges of drink-driving – particularly those with multiple offences;
  • Seeking license restoration; or
  • Directed by the courts or Corrective Services.

The Sober Driver Program curriculum aims to:

  • Provide accurate information about alcohol to participants;
  • Explain short- and long-term effects of alcohol in the body;
  • Explain the ways in which alcohol effects one’s ability to drive safely;
  • Develop participants’ understanding of the effects of drink-driving on oneself and the community;
  • Assist participants to develop essential skills and positive attitudes for safe driving; and
  • Assist drink-drivers to develop and implement strategies and to access additional support to avoid relapse behaviours.

We can provide confirmation of enrolment, offer referrals and requests for adjournments until after graduation for enrolled participants.

Our team is professionally trained in the delivery of the Program.
